Me and My Chinese Story Documentary Series Launched for Online Broadcast

Boost China-Foreign Cultural Exchanges, Support Strategic Development of High-Quality Workforce

Dr Evans and His World of Popular Science, the first episode of Me and My Chinese Story documentary series co-produced by the Immigration Service Center of National Immigration Administration (NIA) and CRI Online, was launched online on December 3, and raked up more than 5.7million views on various platform at home and abroad within its first 10 days.

Through exploring the real stories of foreigners living in China by means of interviews and interactive Q&A sessions, the documentaries enable the Chinese to understand the contributions of foreigners to the country’s economic and social development while reflecting the development, changes, openness and inclusiveness of China. With multi-language subtitles including English, France, Russian, Germany, Japanese, Korean and Arabian, the documentaries present a vivid, real and reliable image of China to overseas audiences.

of Dr Evans and His World of Popular Science, is a Distinguished Professor at the Beijing University of Chemical University. He has received many honors including the Friendship Award from the Chinese government in 2001, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China in 2005, and the honorary title of Special Contributor for Popular Science in 2016. He was also awarded the title of 2020 Beijing Role Model and was named as one of the Top Ten Role Models in Science Communication in 2020 by China Science Communication.

The documentary tells his story in China over the past 24 years during which he devoted himself to the popularization of science for teenagers. He has given over 600 lectures on science popularization to more than 200,000 students in primary and secondary schools as well as the public in 300 cities of 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. He has also participated in various major national science events including the National Science Popularization Day and the National Science and Technology Week for 10 consecutive years, with an audience of nearly 300,000. Additionally, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Science Experiment Center of the Beijing University of Chemical Technology to help encourage teenagers to get interested in chemistry and to understand the subject by designing miniature chemistry experiments which are both interesting and scientifically significant. He also organized the filming of over 260 chemistry science videos, which have been widely disseminated on new media platforms.

Efforts are being made to gather talents globally and facilitate social integration. Conforming to the development of the times, the NIA Immigration Service Center has employed targeted measures for the publicity on administration and services for foreigners in China, which favorably reflects the correctness, timeliness and convenience of China's immigration policies and further bolstering cultural exchanges and integration and mutual learning between China and foreign civilizations. Those measures have also been employed to gradually eliminate barriers and dispel misunderstandings among people, and to win the Chinese public's understanding and support for the integration of immigrants. The measures have also sought to create a favorable environment for foreign high-caliber personnel to come to China for innovation and entrepreneurship, serving to guarantee the implementation of the strategy on developing a quality workforce and high-quality socio-economic development.
