China Sees 6.71 Million Cross-Border Passenger Trips During Mid-Autumn Festival Holiday

During this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, China’s border inspection authorities nationwide handled a total of 6.71 million inbound and outbound passenger trips by Chinese and foreign travelers, averaging 2.24 million per day, representing a 16.8 percent increase from the same period last year. The single-day peak came on September 26, with 2.34 million cross-border trips. Of the total, mainland residents made 3.21 million inbound and outbound trips, up 5.3 percent year on year; Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents recorded 2.78 million trips, up 27.7 percent; and foreign nationals accounted for 728,000 trips, up 37.7 percent. The number of inbound trips by foreign nationals on visa-free policies reached 247,000, a 32.7 percent year-on-year increase. A total of 309,000 inbound and outbound means of transport, including aircraft, vessels, trains and motor vehicles, were inspected, up 8.6 percent from the same period last year.
