A Total of 178 Million Exits and Entries Recorded in Q3 of 2025, with Visa-Free Foreign Entries Surging 48.3%

On October 16, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) hosted a press conference to release the main statistics regarding immigration management in the third quarter (Q3) of 2025.
From August 31 to September 1, the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit was held in Tianjin, during which the Tianjin General Station of Immigration Inspection fully ensured efficient and smooth exits and entries at Tianjin's ports.
In Q3, the immigration administration authorities in China inspected a total of 178 million entries and exits by individuals, marking a year-on-year rise of 12.9%. These included 89.372 million trips made by the residents of the Chinese mainland, and 68.731 million trips by the residents of Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and the Taiwan region, representing year-on-year increases of 13.8% and 6.2%, respectively. Foreign nationals made 20.134 million trips, indicating a 22.3% year-on-year increase, among which 7.246 million entries were visa-free, constituting 72.2% of all entries made by foreign nationals and reflecting a 48.3% year-on-year rise. In addition, a total of 9.904 million trips of transportation vehicles were inspected, marking a year-on-year growth of 17.5%. These encompassed 260,000 flights, 27,000 train trips, 114,000 ship voyages, and 9.503 million trips by motor vehicles, reflecting year-on-year increases of 10.2%, 4.6%, 2.9%, and 18% respectively.
As of July 1, two years since the implementation of the "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles" scheme, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Immigration Inspection Station under the Zhuhai General Station of Immigration Inspection had inspected over 2.86 million trips by the northbound Hong Kong vehicles.
A total of 5.695 million ordinary passports, 28.117 million endorsements for Chinese mainland residents traveling to and from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, 583,000 Mainland Travel Permits for Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan residents, and 584,000 visas and other relevant documents for foreigners were issued. NIA's government service platform provided inquiry and other government services for Chinese and foreign entry-exit personnel for a total of 54.21 million times. It also offered free identity verification services for residents of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, overseas Chinese, and foreigners for 19.27 million times. The China Immigration Service Hotline 12367 handled 1.9767 million calls and messages from Chinese and foreign nationals, benefiting individuals from more than 100 countries and regions worldwide, with an average satisfaction rate of 99.48%. A total of 4,838 cases of crimes undermining border/boundary security were investigated, leading to the apprehension of more than 15,300 suspects and the dismantling of 134 criminal gangs. Specifically, 43 cases were classified as major and serious ones that were designated to be handled within specific times. Efforts were also made to crack down on illegal activities in border/boundary regions, including those involving firearms, explosives, and drug trafficking, with 84 drug-related cases solved, 100 suspects arrested, and 1.35 tons of various drugs seized. A total of 15 drug-related cases involved over 10 kilograms of drugs. Additionally, 726 firearms and over 24,600 rounds of ammunition were confiscated.

On August 1, immigration police officers from the Kanas Border Control Police Station, which is subject to the Border Control Branch of Altay of the Xinjiang General Station of Immigration Inspection, conducted border patrols and surveys.
