With the implementation of preferential policies such as those concerning mutual visa exemption and 144-hour visa-free transit, there have been rises in the numbers of both the outbound trips by Chinese citizens and the inbound trips by foreign citizens. In July and August, border inspection authorities across China facilitated 110 million exits and entries made by Chinese and foreign citizens, averaging 1.779 million daily. This represents a 30-percent year-on-year rise and a 13-percent increase compared with May and June this year. The highest single-day figure was 2.237 million recorded on August 24, reaching 97.2 percent of the historical peak.

Notably, Chinese mainland residents made 55.381 million entry-exit trips, increasing by 28.1 percent year on year. A total of 44.032 million exit-entry trips were made by Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan residents, increasing by 27.6 percent year on year. The number of exit-entry trips of foreign nationals reached 10.89 million, indicating a 52.8 percent year-on-year rise. Additionally, 1.957 million entries by foreign nationals (excluding border residents) were made visa-free, up by 117 percent compared with the same period last year. In addition, border inspection authorities nationwide inspected 5.64 million entries and exits of entry-exit transport vehicles (planes, trains, ships, and motor vehicles), representing a 32-percent year-on-year increase.

Under the unified arrangement of the National Immigration Administration, the border inspection authorities across China made predictions of passenger flow at ports nationwide to help Chinese and overseas exit-entry travelers make proper travel plans. To ensure that the time each Chinese citizen would spend queuing for entry or exit would be within 30 minutes, the border inspection authorities arranged services based on sound grounds and opened adequate inspection channels. Furthermore, to ensure the safe, timely and efficient dispersal of high volumes of travelers at ports, the border inspection authorities enhanced collaboration with the joint inspection authorities at ports and other relevant local authorities to seamlessly and adeptly deal with the peak periods of passenger flow and the challenges caused by severe convection weather, provide sufficient transportation services, and implement other safeguards measures deemed necessary.
