At approximately 10:30 on 26 August 2026, a large-scale mudslide occurred on the Nepalese side, causing heavy casualties and missing persons at the Gyirong Port, Shigatse City, Xizang Autonomous Region. At present, road and communication links at Gyirong Port have been disrupted, and secondary disasters may still occur. Emergency rescue and disaster-relief operations are underway in an intense and orderly manner. To prevent harm to the lives and property of personnel travelling to the border administration area, avoid disturbance to emergency rescue and disaster-relief operations, and maintain traffic order in the border region, the National Immigration Administration has decided that, with effect from 00:00 on 28 August 2026, the issuance of electronic border administration area permit for Shigatse City, Xizang Autonomous Region shall be suspended. Persons already holding valid electronic border administration area permit listing Shigatse City as their destination are requested to refrain from travelling to the aforementioned area for the time being. The resumption of issuance will be announced separately.
