According to the analysis and evaluation of the National Immigration Administration (NIA), during the Tomb-Sweeping Day holiday in 2019, the average daily number of exit-entry passengers at ports across the country will reach 1,990,000, an estimated increase of 5.4 percent year on year.

The exit-entry passenger traffic generally remains stable at Beijing Capital International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and other major international airports. Land ports adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao and direct-flight ports with Taiwan see passenger traffic surge as a large number of residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan return home to honor their ancestors. It is estimated that the average daily number of exit-entry passengers at the ports of Gongbei, Luohu, Futian and West Kowloon Station will reach 425,000, 306,000, 188,000 and 92,000, respectively.

Recently, NIA has made special arrangements for frontier inspection during the Tomb-Sweeping Day holiday, requiring frontier inspection authorities to scientifically predict and release the exit-entry passenger traffic of their respective ports in a timely manner, while preparing sufficient police manpower on duty and opening adequate inspection channels to actively guide passengers to exit and enter the borders safely and orderly, and ensure maximal 30 minutes for customs clearance of Chinese citizens. In particular, the land ports adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao and the direct-flight ports with Taiwan shall provide convenience for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents returning home to honor their ancestors, and police manpower shall be arranged to provide assistance to the elderly, children and other passengers with impaired mobility who need special care.

NIA reminds the exit-entry passengers to carefully check their exit-entry documents and those of their companions before traveling, especially the validity period of visas and endorsements.  In addition, passengers are called to pay close attention to the situation of passenger traffic and customs clearance at ports, and try to avoid traveling during peak hours. Passengers departing by air are advised to arrive at the airports as early as possible to go through frontier inspection formalities. In case of difficulties in customs clearance, passengers can seek help from the police officers on duty at any time.
