During this year's Labor Day holiday (May 1 to 5), the average daily number of exits and entries via ports across China is expected to reach 2.15 million, marking a year-on-year increase of 27%. Peak traffic is anticipated mainly on May 1 and May 5. Exit-entry traffic at major international airports has been steadily increasing. Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Beijing Capital International Airport, Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport will see steady growth in passenger volumes, with projected daily averages of 101,000, 50,000, 45,000, 19,000, and 18,000, respectively. As holiday traffic between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong/Macao SAR becomes even more common, with large-scale events scheduled in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao during the holiday, the land ports adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao SARs will see significant growth in the numbers of travelers handled. Specifically, the average daily numbers of exits and entries recorded at Shenzhen Luohu, Futian, Shenzhen Bay, Liantang, and Hong Kong West Kowloon Station of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link are predicted to reach 250,000, 220,000, 150,000, 100,000, and 100,000, respectively. The numbers at Zhuhai Gongbei, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Qingmao, and Hengqin are predicted to reach 370,000, 127,000, 107,000, and 100,000, respectively.
The National Immigration Administration (NIA) recently issued specialized directives to ensure efficient border inspection operations during the holiday. The immigration inspection authorities nationwide are ordered to closely monitor passenger flows and port operations, and promptly release real-time traffic updates to assist the travelers in planning their trips. The authorities concerned are also required to deploy sufficient police officers and other staff workers to ensure that the time each Chinese citizen spends queuing for exit or entry will not exceed 30 minutes. Collaboration with joint inspection authorities (such as customs and quarantine authorities) and local governmental authorities will be strengthened to ensure coordinated crowd management and transportation support during peak periods, with preventive measures against adverse situations (such as extreme weather conditions) to be taken, to jointly ensure safe and efficient exits and entries via the ports.
NIA hereby advises all inbound and outbound travelers, both Chinese and foreign, to stay updated on the information about the passenger flows and exit-entry situations before trips, and check the validity of their travel documents, visas and endorsements. Those requiring assistance during exit or entry processes may contact the China Immigration Service Hotline 12367 or seek help from on-duty immigration police officers.
