New trends and features recently emerged in illegal cross-border activities, particularly human smuggling. A number of individuals were deceived by Chinese and overseas smugglers and cross-border criminal groups into engaging in smuggling, placing their own personal safety at risk and resulting in substantial economic losses and even fatal consequences. As a part of the efforts to combat such illegal cross-border activities and protect the safety and property of individuals legally entering and exiting China, the National Immigration Administration of the People's Republic of China has, based on mutual respect and equal consultation, strengthened practical cooperation with law enforcement and immigration authorities in other countries including the United States. Together, we have been combating smuggling and other serious crimes and holding those who plan and organize these activities accountable. So far, we have achieved positive results in sharing information, apprehending smugglers, investigating smuggling cases, and repatriating smuggled individuals. The cooperation in law enforcement has also been improved.

Moving forward, the National Immigration Administration of the People's Republic of China will continue to enhance international cooperation in migration law enforcement and collaborate with all interested parties to overcome the challenges of illegal cross-border activities and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of individuals legally entering and exiting China.
