Xu Ganlu, vice minister of Public Security and administrator of National Immigration Administration (NIA), met with António Vitorino, director general of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) via video link and exchanged views on deepening cooperation in immigration in Beijing on December 2.

Xu Ganlu expressed that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China(CPC). The Sixth Plenary Session of 19th CPC Central Committee comprehensively summed up the historical experience of the 100 years of endeavors, while one of the key points is to have persisted in keeping the whole world in mind, holding high the banner of a community with a shared future for mankind, and contributing China's part to international peace and progress. NIA, under the leadership of the CPC, will continue to hold high the banner of a community with a shared future for mankind and work hand in hand with its counterparts in other countries and IOM to further promote the legal, orderly and sustainable flow of immigrants worldwide.

Xu spoke highly of the crucial role IOM played in promoting the orderly flow of global immigration since its establishment 70 years ago, and fully affirmed the fruitful outcomes in exchanges and cooperation between China's immigration authorities and IOM in recent years. He stressed that to meet the global challenges in immigration under the background of regular epidemic prevention, it is essential to adhere to multilateralism and deepen international bilateral and multilateral cooperation, give full play to the role of immigration management authorities in promoting the post-epidemic socio-economic recovery, and strengthen capacity building to continuously enhance the governance of immigration.

António Vitorino extended warm congratulations to the CPC on its 100th anniversary. He expressed that IOM values China's important position in international multilateral affairs, appreciates its consistent attitude of actively participating in the global governance of immigration affairs, and deeply agrees with China's proposals on current international immigration affairs. NIA has been fully committed to epidemic prevention and control and provided a series of policy support and convenient services for foreigners in China, setting an example for immigration departments of foreign countries and offering useful practices and experiences for reference. IOM is willing to maintain close communication and accelerate cooperation with China, in a bid to exert positive effects in the implementation of the Global Compact for Migration and facilitate the safe, orderly and regular immigration.

Li Yulu, vice administrator of NIA, attended the video meeting, together with principal officials from the Department of International Cooperation in Immigration Affairs, Department of Policies and Regulations, Department of Foreigners Management, Department of Citizen Exit and Entry Management and Department of Frontier Inspection and Management of NIA.
