On July, 26, Yin Chengji, vice administrator of the National Immigration Administration (NIA) met with Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, deputy director general of the Immigration Department of Malaysia in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on advancing cooperation in immigration affairs between China and Malaysia.

On behalf of NIA, Yin Chengji welcomed Mohamad Fauzi and his delegation to visit China. He said that China-Malaysia friendship enjoyed a long history and showed great vitality especially since it was upgraded to a strategic partnership in 2013. The immigration departments of the two countries maintained friendly cooperation for a long time, especially in facilitating bilateral personnel exchanges, preventing and fighting transnational crimes, and maintaining the order of entry and exit management. In April this year, Xu Ganlu, vice minister of Public Security, met with Khairul Dzaimee Daud, director general of the Immigration Department of Malaysia in Beijing, reaching important consensus on further deepening cooperation in immigration law enforcement between the two sides.

In the next step, Yin noted, China stands ready to work with Malaysia to implement the relevant consensus. To this end, China suggested that the two countries strengthen consultations, study and introduce more visa and residence facilitation policies for citizens of the two sides. It is important to enhance pragmatic law enforcement cooperation, and strive for more results in intelligence exchange and case collaboration. Efforts shall be made to promote the establishment of multi-level exchange and communication platform between the two departments to deepen understanding and mutual learning. Also it is vital to sum up experience and practices in a timely manner, sort out policies and measures, and promote the establishment of related cooperation mechanisms by means of signing agreements and memorandums.

Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa applauded the suggestions proposed by Yin Chengji. He said that the Malaysian government would launch the "2020 Malaysia Tourism Year" project next year, hoping that the number of foreign tourists to Malaysia would exceed 30 million. At present, China has become the largest source of tourists for Malaysia. The Immigration Department of Malaysia attached great importance to the cooperation with NIA of China and would like to provide the best service for Chinese tourists.

To this end, Malaysia works further to provide policy convenience for Chinese citizens to go to Malaysia by launching the electronic visa (eVISA) and visa-free registration (eNTRI) application system, setting up visa centers in China, and receiving visa applications on arrival, etc. At the same time, Malaysia hopes to further strengthen cooperation with China in the field of combating transnational crimes, and is willing to continue to utilize its functional advantages to provide support and convenience for China's overseas pursuit of escapees.

Relevant officials from the Department of International Cooperation on Immigration Affairs, Department of Foreigners Management, Department of Citizen Exit and Entry Management and other departments of NIA were present at the meeting.
